SAFETY AND SECURITY

access control

Regulations about safety and security which are given from time to time must be obeyed.

The school has a biometric fingerprinting access control system to monitor learners’ and staff members’ access to the school campus and to improve security control.

High-quality optical fingerprint scanners will read each learner’s fingerprints on arrival at the school’s security access points and entrance to the campus will be granted.

The learner will be required to exit the campus in the same way, after school and after school-related activities, each day.

Upon joining the school, each learner will be finger-printed so that their details can be recorded on the biometric system.

    out of bounds areas

    The following areas are out of bounds during breaks, before and after school unless a member of staff is present:

    • the foyer and Hall, including the Gallery;
    • the staff-room and stairs leading to it;
    • the Pavilion;
    • all playing fields and tennis courts;
    • the swimming pool and gym area;
    • all corridors;
    • the Media Centre, prefabs; F block, W block and all car parks;
    • the staff village and areas designated as out of bounds from time to time.

      ROAD SAFETY

      Learners must walk on the pavements and obey all road signs in and around the school.

      We appeal to parents and learners to drive with extreme caution in the school area. It is against traffic rules to stop in Ysterhout Drive to drop off learners. Please use the area near the garage and the off-loading bays in Rabie Street.

      Parents are requested to use extra caution in Asgaai Avenue. Please do not park or stop on the red lines or street corners where traffic obstruction and visibility will be affected. Please respect our neighbours by not parking in their driveways or blocking access to their homes with your vehicles.

      Learners may be dropped off in the circle. The volume of traffic makes it impossible for parents to drop off or collect learners inside the school grounds.

      We earnestly request your co-operation to ensure the safety of all our learners.

        PERSONAL POSSESSIONS

        Learners must not leave their bags and other possessions lying around in areas to which the general student body has access. Each learner must secure his/her property at all times. Learners should not bring irreplaceable or expensive personal property to school; where this is unavoidable, provision must be made to safeguard the property while not in the learner’s possession by asking the Front Office to hold the property.

        It is advisable to label all property that is regularly brought to school; e.g. uniforms, sports-gear, books, pencil boxes etc. This should be done with permanent ink. It is also wise to put a secret identifying mark on all such property.

        The school cannot take responsibility for possessions which go missing.

          LOCKERS

          A number of lockers are available at a minimal charge of R150.00 per year. These lockers are able to store tog bags, books etc. A limited number of larger sports lockers, able to store a cricket bag, are available at a charge of R200.00 per year. The lockers ensure the safety of your children’s possessions.

          Learners who want to hire a locker should contact the Bookkeeper’s Office. Once hired, these lockers must be kept locked to prevent vandalism.

          Grade 12 learners are given the first opportunity to hire lockers; thereafter the lockers are hired on a first come, first served basis.

            PROHIBITED ITEMS & CONTENT - BAGS & DIGITAL DEVICES

            In the interests of maintaining a safe and disciplined school environment, the school reserves the right to inspect, review, search and/or seize a learner’s school bags, cell phone, or any other electronic or digital device or any other asset or property where the school has reasonable suspicion, or where a report has been received, that the learner may be in possession of contraband, illegal substances, prohibited items, material or content that is inappropriate, harmful, or unlawful, or material that may be used to gain an unfair advantage or facilitate cheating during controlled tests, examinations, or other formal assessment activities. Any such inspection, review, search and/or seizure will be conducted by authorised school staff in accordance with the school’s policies and applicable law.
